This program will focus on significant architectural sites in and around the city of Rome, where the primary means of investigation is observational and analytical drawings using plein air and architectural drawing conventions. Students will explore traditional and contemporary media to document architectural sites. Site visits and activities will be informed through historical readings, presentations, discussions and group activities. The emphasis of the program is to assist students in developing drawing skills while deepening their knowledge and appreciation of architecture and interiors in the specific sociological/historical place of Rome.

Previous Years - Ohio University
Before coming to NAU, I ran a full-time summer semester study abroad program at Ohio University from 2011 - 2018. The websites and links that follow show examples from that program, including a daily blog, itinerary, and student work. This summer at NAU the program will be an abbreviation of the examples that follow, with one class (3 credits), and a total of 18 days travel time in and around the city of Rome.
